Youth Fitness May Play Role in Later Diabetes Risk

A new study of 1.5 million Swedish youths who underwent physical fitness tests at the point of conscription to the military shows that youth fitness may play a role in diabetes risk. It was found that teens with poor physical fitness were at higher risk of getting diabetes in later life even if they are not obese or overweight. Poor aerobic fitness and low muscle strength was associated with a three times higher risk of diabetes in adulthood.
