Women with Migraine and Heart Disease, Stroke Risk

woman-having-headacheMigraines are headaches that are characterized by pulsing or throbbing, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. A recent study shows that women who suffer from migraines may have an increased risk of stroke and heart disease.

The findings found that women who had migraines had a 50 percent greater risk for heart attack, stroke or surgery to open blocked heart arteries. Migraines were linked with a 37 percent higher risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke.

The researchers advise that migraines should be considered a marker for the increased risk of cardiovascular disease in women. However, they also believe that the risk is not just limited to women.
