An interactive web-based program is helping people who have chronic sleep problems get some much needed sleep. It eliminates the need to take medication or spend hours on a therapist’s couch.
- The program makes use of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) techniques over a six-week period to reset sleep patterns.
- The results of the online program compared favorably with face-to-face cognitive behavior therapy.
- CBT is quite expensive even though it is the gold standard in dealing with insomnia. it is way cheaper to do it online.
People who participated in the program “experienced significant and clinically meaningful improvements in their sleep, compared to those who were given online patient education,” said lead researcher Lee Ritterband.
