New research reveals that the risk of physical disability in women as they grow older can be reduced through healthy eating. The study sought to evaluate how diet impacts physical function as women grow older.
Women who ate healthy diets had a lower risk of developing mobility problems in their old age. Overall, the increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, low consumption of salt, trans fats and sugar-sweetened beverages, as well as moderate alcohol intake, reduced the risk of physical impairment.
Physical function should be in the same “health category” as heart disease and cancer. It’s crucial for people as they age since physical function affects the ability to live independently.
