This Diet May Lower Women’s Hip Fracture Risk

hip painNew research findings indicate that women who followed a Mediterranean diet had a 20 percent lower risk of hip fractures compared to those who did not follow a Mediterranean diet.

Mediterranean diets are characterized by high amounts of fruits, legumes, whole grain, vegetables and nuts. It is believed that the diet can be very important in promoting bone health as people age.

The results of the study are not very convincing since they could not prove a cause and effect relationship. The degree of reduction of the risk of hip fracture among women was very minimal at only 0.33 percent, according to Dr. Bernhard Haring of the University of Wurzburg in Germany.
