Snoring, Lack of Sleep May Reduce Breast Cancer Survival

woman smillingThe American Cancer Society reports that approximately 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women will be diagnosed in 2016. More than 40,000 of these women will die from breast cancer.

Study findings published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine indicate that women who snored frequently and slept for shorter periods prior to diagnosis with breast cancer had a poorer prognosis.

The women with breast cancer who got less than six hours of sleep and snored on more than five nights a week were twice as likely to die from the disease. Sleep disorders led to increased tumor growth and reduced cancer survival.
