My Hands and Feet Are Always Cold — Should I Worry?

warmersSome people struggle with cold often feeling cold in their feet and their hands. According to Natalie Evans MD, a vascular specialist says that cold feet and hands are a common complaint. Cold extremities could signal serious health problems such as underactive thyroid, peripheral artery disease, rheumatologic conditions that include scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis.

In most cases, cold hands and feet are a sign of Raynaud’s disease which is a benign condition that leads to extreme constriction of blood vessels in the fingers and the toes. In this case, the vessels constrict suddenly and slam shut as opposed to the normal constriction that is a healthy response that preserves core body temperature.
