Music Exposure Benefits Babies’ Brains

baby musicEarly training in music for children helps them to develop a repertoire of perceptual skills and will help them develop speech.

The researchers from the University of Washington investigated the effects of early music training on music and speech processing in nine months old infants. They made the infants to listen to recordings of waltz music and were encouraged to tap out musical beats with their feet and rocked to the beats of the music.

These infants exhibited greater neural activity in auditory and prefrontal cortical parts of the brain that were associated with pattern processing and the predictive coding of auditory stimuli.
