Moderate Drinking Could Lower Heart Attack, Heart Failure Risk

glass-of-beerTwo new studies undertaken in Norway and Sweden have indicated that consuming three to five drinks a week will lower the risk of heart failure and heart attacks. Other studies published previously have shown that moderate consumption of alcohol will lower the rate of death from early stage Alzheimer’s disease.

The research findings were that compared with participants who never or rarely drank alcohol, the people who consumed around three to five drinks a week had a 33% lower risk of heart failure. The researchers also cautioned that increased risk of death due to cardiovascular disease was associated with the consumption of at least five drinks weekly. High alcohol consumption is also linked to death from liver disease.
