Men Face Greater Risk of Cardiac Arrest

man workingA new study reveals that men were more likely to have their hearts stop when compared to women. By the age of 45 years, men will have an 11 percent risk of sudden cardiac death as compared to a 3 percent risk for women.

According to Dr. Donald Lloyd-Jones, chair of preventive medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, the sudden cardiac deaths occur prematurely before 70 years and can be prevented.

Men should be regularly screened for the risk factors of cardiac arrest to help prevent premature death. The risk factors are high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
