Men B vaccine – Bexsero

Meningococcus is a bacteria. Its true Latin name is Neisseria Meningitides. There are 6 main types, A, B, C, W, X, Y. Type B is the most nasty and lethal. 15% of people infected with this form of meningitis are dead within 12 hours. If it doesn’t kill you, it often leaves terrible consequences, such as blindness or amputated limbs. Those who may have come into recent contact with someone who went on to develop this disease should have a course of prophylactic antibiotic called Rifampicin, for up to 5 days. A vaccine is available, called Bexsero. It can be given from 2 months age, onwards.
