Meditation May Help Ease Chronic Low Back Pain

meditationClinical trials have shown that meditation can actually work better than painkillers in the relief of chronic low back pain. The researchers used a program called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) which was found to be better than the standard medical care for low back pain.

MBSR is composed of group sessions that mix simple yoga poses and meditation. The study found that the MBSR exercises were 40 percent likely to have meaningful improvement in pain and daily activity when compared to people who opted for conventional care for aching backs.

The patients who went through MBSR, 60 percent of them showed meaningful improvement in daily activities such as climbing stairs, walking, and standing for long periods.
