The increasing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics has led to the search for alternative treatments for sore throat. One such alternative is the use of steroids.
– The use of steroid medications for sore throat has very modest success with improvement.
– Steroid treatment may suppress vital symptoms of an underlying condition.
– Instead of taking steroids, use aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen to manage pain.
Sore throats should improve within three to five days, he said, and they should not get worse. Contact your doctor, he added, if you have a significant fever, not much of a cough and difficulty swallowing, since that might be a sign of a bacterial infection.
