Hoppy Beer Compound Decreases Weight Gain and Lowers Cholesterol

A “hoppier” beer might prevent weight gain and the pre-diabetes condition known as metabolic syndrome,  new research shows. Research undertaken at Oregon State University and led by Cristobal Miranda, an associate professor, has found that a flavonoid called xanthohumol in beer and hops improved markers of metabolic syndrome in laboratory mice.

The underlying causes of metabolic syndrome are physical inactivity, obesity, overweight and genetic factors. This flavonoid in hoppy beers could be useful in reducing weight.
