Having a Baby after 35 – The Risks

Women are delaying childbirth for number of reasons such as personal and professional reasons. As a result, women are becoming pregnant after the age of 35 years.

Fertility in women begins to decline from the age of 32 to 37 years due to the decrease in the quality and quantity of ova (eggs). Other reasons are the incidence of conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes and miscarriages. There is also the risk of the baby being born with Down’s syndrome.
