An assessment of the lung/heart fitness of both healthy and older adults reveals some interesting findings about brain activity. Fitness may help to keep the brain healthy as people get older.
– Older people who had high levels of heart and lung fitness had more brain activity, better memory, and greater ability to learn and remember new things.
– Getting regular exercise can help improve heart and lung fitness. People can walk, dance, jog or swim to get sustained physical exercise.
– There are immense benefits in starting a physical exercise program at any age since it has discernible health benefits.
The increased brain activity in those with higher levels of heart/lung fitness occurred in regions typically affected by age-related decline. The findings suggest that heart/lung fitness may also help keep the brain healthy as people get older.
