Diabetes Ups Risk of Heart Attack Death

diabetesA recent study reveals that people with diabetes were 56 percent more likely to die after a heart attack due to a completely blocked coronary artery. 39 percent likelihood of dying was reported for those with heart attack caused by a partially blocked coronary artery.

These findings emphasize the need to focus on the long-term effects of diabetes in survivors of a heart attack. The researchers also emphasize the need of cooperation between primary care doctors, cardiologists, and doctors who treat diabetes (endocrinologists) to find better treatments for high risk diabetes patients to improve their chances for survival.

Healthy balanced diet, regular exercise and blood sugar control are key to kicking diabetes for good.
