Could Anxiety Increase Risk of Dementia?

anxiety A research conducted by reviewing previously published human and animal studies on the brain in areas of fear, stress and chronic anxiety. The study was based on the observation that stress worsened mental illnesses. It led the researchers find the mechanisms that link stress and mental illness.

The story revealed that aberrant brain activity occurred in similar patterns in the wake of chronic stress, fear and anxiety. These states of fear, anxiety and stress are commonplace in life owing to the different situations we face at work and even at home.

The conclusion of the study was that pathological anxiety and chronic stress are associated with structural degeneration and impaired functioning of the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex. It will lead to a high risk of suffering neuropsychiatric disorders that include depression and dementia.
