- A healthy and balanced diet of healthy grains, lean protein, fruits and vegetables helps reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease.
- Keep unhealthy foods out of sight and even avoid unhealthy foods on the restaurant menu. Instead opt for a salad or keep a bowl of fruit in the kitchen.
- Brushing your teeth immediately after a meal helps to keep away bad breath and avoid frequent snacking.
At home, it’s also important to anticipate unhealthy cravings. Many people make unwise snack choices when they are relaxing after dinner, said Johnson. Instead of giving in to those cravings, take a walk or call a friend on the phone, she suggested.
