A new study has revealed that consumption of vegetables and fruits with high amounts of flavonoids helped with weight control on the long term. According to Monica Bertoia, the study author and research associate at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the seven different classes of flavonoids were associated with reduced weight gain.
Examples of the fruits that are rich in flavonoids include peppers, apples, berries and pears. The classes of flavonoids that have the greatest link with weight maintenance are anthocyanins, flavan-3-ols, flavonols and flavonoid polymers. Even though the weight moderating effects were modest, the researchers believe that they are still valuable on the overall. These effects may help ward off the risk of diseases such as diabetes.
