A team of scientists from Oxford University have identified a marker in blood that can be used to identify the likelihood of suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) even 16 years before the condition has taken effect. The test is used check for antibodies associated with the presence of tenascin-C protein. Rheumatoid arthritis is estimated to affects 445,000 Australians and it is more prevalent in women than men affecting the fingers, wrists, knees, ankles and toes.
