Adolescent Diet May Impact Later-Life Breast Density, Breast Cancer Risk

teenage-girlBreast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. High breast density which refers to relatively high volume of glandular or fibrous tissue compared to fat is associated with the high risk of breast cancer. Other risks of breast cancer are having a child after 30 years of age, late menopause, and early onset of periods.

Breast density was measured using magnetic resonance imaging. New research indicates that dietary factors in adolescence may lead to higher density breasts in adulthood. The confirmation of the results will indicate that the dietary habits of adolescents could potentially increase the risk of breast cancer much later in life.
